For the Caller ID (CNAM) to be displayed correctly, the terminating (other) carrier, to whom the calls are getting delivered must have updated their local repository from the official database(s). This update is referred to as a “dip" and depending on the carrier, they may or may not perform these dips regularly. Due to this, the recipient may see outdated information for your number. Larger providers usually keep up to date with these databases, and you are more likely to notice a problem when a smaller carrier is involved.

We do provide support for our client's number CNAM changes, and are responsible for ensuring that the proper databases are updated in a timely fashion. We don't have any visibility or control over how a third-party provider manages their repositories, nor can we force them to update their records.

Toll Free:
The CNAM (caller ID) Industry Routing Guidelines do not apply to toll free numbers. When CNAM/LIDB vendors receive queries for toll free numbers, they dip their own database regardless of whether or not that database holds the correct CNAM information. The various CNAM/LIDB databases do not communicate or sync correct toll free number information either. As our CNAM/LIDB vendor and the industry do not fully support these dips, we currently do not support CNAM dips on toll free.”
